Development
of a Combined Low-cost Water
and Soil Testing Kit for Schools
Background
and Objectives
In recent
years, environment education
is becoming an inseparable part
of school curriculum. Water
& Soil are two major factors
on which life thrives. Next
to air, water is the most life
sustaining media for survival
and soil is the media through
which we get food for daily
sustenance. Due to unchecked
industrial development and other
disturbing components, water
and soil are getting polluted
day by day resulting in increased
level of contaminants. Schools
provide the basic foundation
for a children's progress in
future life and the responsibility
to provide them a healthy surrounding
rests on us. There was no easy
to do yet authentic kits to
measure the soil & water
quality, so a project was funded
by NCSTC, DST, Govt. of India
and implemented by ASTE Council
in collaboration with Cotton
College Chemical Society to
design and produce a low cost
water & soil testing kit
for schools.

India through respective
