| This exclusive project is a national programme conceptualized and initiated by MoEF, GoI. Totally supported and catalyzed by Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India since 2001-02 aims to establish Eco-Clubs in schools to constitute a National Green Corps (NGC) with a prime endeavour to spread environmental awareness and carry out action based programmes for protection and improvement of environment amongst the school students. Since this programme aims at building a cadre of young green corps to spearhead the conservation movement, it has been named the National Green Corps (NGC). The Ministry along with the help of state governments hopes to involve the masses across the nation in an environment conservation movement by triggering a chain reaction that starts from the school children –the ‘early adopters’ – and moves on to include society and ultimately the decision makers. This project lends a helping hand in directly as well as indirectly preserving the valuable natural resources including biotic components present around us and to pave a mindset amongst the school students, the so called future citizens of our nation to increase eagerness to know and love nature to its fullest. The Govt. of Assam has allotted ASTEC the Nodal Agency for the state of Assam and its Director as the Nodal Officer. Books and booklets received from Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India and Centre for Environment Education-North East have been received and distributed to all the Eco-Clubs for the last couple of years. |
